Covid-19 virus has been said to have more severe effects on the aged especially those with underlaying conditions. This was a similar case for  Linda Wambui, a mother and grandmother, who is seventy years of age who lives in Nyeri, Kenya.

Linda is a celebrated survivor of Covid-19 among her family members. Before contracting the virus Linda had been visiting her brother who had been admitted in the hospital. Linda and her family believe that she might have contracted the Covid-19 virus during one her visits to the hospital.

For a long time Linda had been complaining about chest pains that she had been experiencing prior to her Covid-19 infection. The sharp pain in her chest got severe and her son decided to take her to a local clinic where she was given some prescriptions. Three days after her diagnosis Linda started to have a fever. She was also developing some breathing difficulties. The prescriptions she had been given before were not working on her and her family decided to take her to the hospital with her worsening condition.

Linda was later taken to Nyeri PGH where she took the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test and was found positive of the Covid-19 virus. The results of her being positive of Covid-19  was a great blow to Linda who was aware of her vulnerability to Covid-19 due to her old age.  It was also such a great shock to her and her family.

During this time the Kenyan health system was already overwhelmed and Linda was advised to get her medication from home. The hospital in Nyeri, Kenya was already full forcing Linda to self isolate herself from everyone as she went through the healing process.

At her age it was really hard having to deal with the new normal. Linda had to spend most of the time alone as she was afraid of infecting her loved ones with the virus. It was a hard time for Linda to deal with both the virus and the loneliness that came with it.

Aside from fighting Covid-19, Linda was going through a lot of self discrimination she could not even let her family touch her items without first cleaning them in the fear of passing on the Covid-19 virus to her loved ones. Her family explains that they too had a difficult time seeing Linda in such a situation but had to put on a strong face for her.

After battling with Covid-19 for almost three weeks Linda finally gets a little bit better. The virus had actually affected her greatly as she had even started to loose weight. Covid-19 gave her a lot of fright that she kept on wearing her face mask even while at home.

At the age of seventy Linda is a great warrior who should be celebrated for battling with Covid-19 and coming out victorious. Linda and her family still continue to take precautions against the virus  by getting vaccinated, wearing on facemasks, and washing hands frequently.
